11:36 a.m. Right now I'm looking over obituaries. I have to set up a table that shows the number of memorials there are in the local paper, the number of memorials that suggest making a donation to the Lung Association, and tally all other donations made to other charities. In September, out of 330 odd memorials, 6 were dedicated to the Lung Association. The Heart and Stroke and the Canadian Cancer Society are the most popular. My boss says it's because the diseases relating to lung health don't technically kill a person. It's not the 'killer disease' that, say, The Cancer Society and H & S are. The lung diseases we fund research for are more of nuisance, and can cause much havoc on a person's system, but they don't necessarily kill. But seriously? Reading obits is quite depressing. *** The Amazing Pace? So much fun! Though I haven't seen it, Dev and I made the front cover of the Stratford paper dressed as batman and robin. I'm trying to get my hands on a copy. The day was exactly what I needed. I laughed the entire time. We were honked at, little kids waved at us, competetitors thought we looked great and commended our spirit. Premise of the event is exactly like the reality show The Amazing Race, but in Stratford. Clues were tricky and we fell for them. It took us an hour to figure out 2 clues (to give you an idea of how shitty that is, one team finished the entire Pace in under 2 hours! 9 checkpoints in all). But, man, did we laugh. At one checkpoint, Dev had to putt and score 50 pts. using only 5 balls. If you didn't get 50pts in 5 balls or less, you had to start over. So, we weren't the fastest team (I think we were 3rd last, but everyone, Marj's mom said, wanted to know how we were doing or if we had arrived), or the highest fundraising team, but we did win a knapsack each for being the most spirited. Yay! Matt and his friends earned medals for being the only two all male teams in the event. *** Most women have roughly 4-7 days of their period, yes? Well, I'm the exact fucking opposite, and it's driving me crazy. From September 2 til, oh, about the 18th, I had my period. Nice, but not surprising since I've changed birth control (to Alesse). It stopped in time for my bi annual gyno appointment. Just when I thought I was out in the clear, my little friend returns on the 26th. Gah. n@s
